Solar Eclipse  -  Wednesday 12 August 2026 - starting at approximately 6.15 pm
In the Retford area this eclipse of the sun will be visible in the west/southwest sky and last until about 8 pm.  
An Eclipse is where the moon comes between the sun and the earth and the shadow of the moon hits the earth.  
It will be a 90% eclipse not a total eclipse but the sky will still go dark and you may notice that the birds stop singing and the air goes colder.
Under no circumstances should you look directly at the sun during an eclipse without certified solar glasses.  It can cause permanent eye damage!

Persied Meteor Shower - Wednesday 12 August 2026 - Best after midnight
This is an annual event.
Best seen towards the east - but also visible across the whole sky.
Streaks of light of small pieces of rock or ice which burn up as the enter the atmosphere of the earth as they are travelling so fast.  
Up to about 150 meteors an hour MAY be seen.
